I got my first ever order from Villainess just a little while ago... the scents weren't exactly what I was expecting, but they were still amazing! I got 1 bar soap (Decadence) with 2 samples (Byzantium and Jai Mahal). Soooo good! At first I wasn't that sure about Jai Mahal in particular, but once I started using it in the shower... the scent just bloomed into something fantastic.I'll definitely be ordering more. :) But what to get? Any suggestions for other products?
I LUUUV IT!!!!!I know it's superficial to harp on looks but when a makeover was announced my main thought was: Will the bomb stil be there? How about the lips?? Well, they are and more and it looks TEH SEXX. For a while though, you might have heard a long shriek emanating from m'brain as I read that Absinthe had been DISCONTINUED (AAAAAHAHHHHHHHNOOOOES!!!!!) Then I started breathing again (to my cat's relief cos I haven't fed him yet) when it was revealed it was still there, just better. So, what do you hope to get? ;)

HEAVEN! It was like sharing the tub with a milder form of Mentholatum rub. It was PERFECT for my stuffy nose and achy body. Kudos Brooke!Although I will probably only use it when I have the sniffles (I cut off chunks and wrap the remainder for future use)...it's dam near perfect for soaping away the nastiess. I will use it until I feel better...~~J
Thanks to miz_persnicket, here I am!I just ordered the following soaps:BathoryEmbargoJadeVagueVillanessand a chunk of Sugar Rush for my BFF.and samples of Pearl Diver and Shanghaied.I very much look forward to the squee!
I just want to say to Brooke that your smooches are effing amazing. Seriously. I love your soap, but it takes me forever to use it and I have way too much to know what to do with. My skin has been annoyed lately, and has been bumpy so I got some smooches to see if it will exfoliate my skin.Holy crap. Your smooches smell AMAZING. I tried some of the DeF on my hand it I am just sitting here smelling it like some weirdo. You should just make smooches, lots and lots of smooches! If it weren't for the new lush retro stuff going on, I would make another order asap, but I will have to wait a month or so.Anyways, my recommendation is for everyone to go out and buy some smooches and have a giant smooch party!Suggestion? Brooke, please make a Canaan smooch and my life will be complete! <3Athanasia
Here is the latest in Brooke's Villainess email updates. If you don't get them, sign up!Hey guys!I am very pleased to announce an update that most of you have been petitioning for a long time. It is a veritable Sugar Buzz update of d00m. For those of you new to Villainess, Sugar Buzz is a totallly overloaded composite of cotton candy, maraschino cherries, berries, and vanilla (mostly). It's delightful! So to completely satisfy your sweet tooth, we offer the original Sugar Buzz Soap, the all new Whipped!, and a revisited Smooch!. Now, last time we made Sugar Buzz Smooch! we managed a lovely snap, crackle, and pop effect when water activated. Due to a disheartening supply unavailability, this year's version lacks a certain... effervescence. Anyways! What it lacks in snap it makes up for in pinkness. And dude, this one is so sweet that even smelling it makes my blood sugar want to spike and crash. While we're on the subject of pinkness, I should go ahead and introduce the rainbow/glitter/sparkles. Our new Unicorn Poo soap smells of marshmallows and is covered in rainbows. Srsly. This is a new Villainess dalliance in whipped soap. The texture is very light and fluffy, each piece is hand-piped (like a vast batch of icing) and I'm super-pleased with the overall quality of the soap. We've also done soaps in 3 new fragrances:Jai Mahal - A lesser palace infused with the sweet scent of victory. 4 rich vanillas and tonka, Mysore sandalwood, bourbon and coconut. Expensive woods, incense and imported spices - cedar, amber, myrrh, cardamom and nutmeg. Despite all the vanilla and spices in this blend, it is neither sweet nor spicy. This is a very rich, smooth concoction - it's resinous, and very deeply, quietly spiced. This is a slightly pre-emptive release, I haven't had a chance to get a second batch made, so this one might disappear fast. It will definitely be back though because I need to stash a few bars.Deferential - A perfectly respectable men's cologne built on unassuming basenotes of amber and vanilla musk, cedarwood and sandalwood, leather, vetiver, and oakmoss. A touch of citrus for interest - bergamot, lemon, orange, verbena, lime and mandarin - and a forgettable smattering of violets and lavender. Because I've been reading entirely too much of T.S. Eliot's maladjusted poetry. This one has bits of rough citrus peel to convey an existential sense of discomfort (i.e. - might want to use a pouff w/ this one!).Trauma - Ripe peaches dripping with dragon’s blood, against a sweet skin-scent of Egyptian musk, amber and myrrh. This one has been on my mind ever since summer's peaches from the produce stand. I wanted to capture, not just the ripe, sweetness of a perfect peach, but the soft texture of peach fuzz, and the visual impact of a blushing coral stained peach pit. We've pimped out the regular line a bit as well. Crushed Smooch! has made a return and is incredible. It's all brown sugar and raspberry and... just. like. cake batter. My production staff complained the entire time they were making this one. Apparently it's like taunting someone w/ candy and never feeding them? I'm assuming this all points to a wonderful scrub. Also, the Smooch! Pak makes a triumphant, non-leaky return. Excellent for gifting. And finally, we now offer a seaweedy, algae-riffic Pearl Diver Mud!. It's probably my favourite mud to-date.As for our winter plans? Expect to hear from us again in early November. We're pulling out all the stops to make your gift-giving absolutely sensational. So before I run off to watch Heroes I need to rave about my new Gearrings. I believe my penchant for mixed metals and industrial bits in my jewelry has been mentioned before, so I won't belabour the point. But I LOVE these! They are 4 different metals in one piece of jewelry, and absolutely gorgeous. Find the wonderful/talented Ratchet at Wane & Waste or on Etsy.Take care my bath & body addicts fans!
I peek at the Villainess site and see BRAND NEW SOAPS, etc!(who am I kidding, I go there everyday)Well, at least the option of "Wish Listing" is available!Remember that episode of Sex and the City where Carrie needs to come up with money for a down payment on her apartment? She tries to recall HOW exactly she has spent all her money when she realizes she could literally become the "old lady who lived in her shoeS"...Now think of me....broke, naked and cold....BUT AT LEAST I'LL SMELL DAMN GOOD!~~J

Posting over from my personal journal, 'cause I thought this comm might be interested! This is a pic of this big Pearl Diver slab I made the other day.Sometimes I really like an entire slab of soap. I mean, most of the time it's all about getting it cut and on the rack to cure, these days I don't have a lot of time to really sit around and relish my masterpiece (lol, I say). For some reason I'm SO into Pearl Diver (not just the soap, but the whole collection - I haven't liked something I make this well since Dulces en Fuego was released). It's partially a hangup from the first time I made this and didn't get a bar, partially because I watched Splash one time too many when I was a kid. And w/ this one, I really had fun polishing the top w/ the cerulean and sea foam micas. So, picture.I did something similar w/ a new soap called Trauma (peach and dragon's blood and some resins - hence the new icon) and decked it out in coral, copper, wine and gold micas. And then I had a spastic moment and deleted those shots before I could download them from the camera. The stupid, it burns. The soap is really gorgeous though. A lot of the fragrance components I work with want to discolour CP soap. Basically, anything yummy. The amber, egyptian musk and vanilla components in this blend turn it dark brown. So, I'm constantly working around the discolour-factor. Sometimes I'll pour coloured, but unscented layers first. Sometimes I'll fragrance the layers in increasing concentrations, so even though they all discolour, there will be variation in the intensity of discolouration. With this one I poured unscented coral soap, and then poured in increasingly fragranced layers. Only each layer is veined w/ a swirl of complementary micas, and then the whole thing is burnished in those warm copper tones. Maybe I can reassemble a few bars into slab form for a pic...Also, I'm really into using coloured micas as accents. Vivid colour is important to me, but it's hard to score in soap w/out giving in to the lure of FD&C dyes (which I use for orange and fuschia only). Generally, micas are coated w/ mineral colourants (the same pigments in eyeshadows - ultramarines, iron oxides, etc) which I feel a lot more comfortable with slathering on my skin. And while you can't use them in CP soap (w/out transparency, there's no lightplay to make mica bling), if I use them on top, or swirled in a concentrated vein, or tossed around w/ some organic bits, I get a big jolt of colour that I couldn't get w/ clays or minerals alone.
Sorry about the lateness, I quit smoking and have been staying off of my computer:Hello! So yes, I realise that technically we are well past the actual Dog Days of summer. The problem I'm having is that the Ancient Romans didn't invent a constellation-based phrase to describe "Hot as Hades in The South in August." We'll need to work on that, because in these parts, every day is breaking 100 degress. So my immediate solution involves The Novocaine Smooch! You may remember this from a couple summers ago. This year, we've reinvented it, and brought it back to keep you cool. This is a white sugar Smooch! so you'll get a nice scrub, and the fragrance is incredible - a chilling blend of eucalyptus, peppermint, and menthol, sweetened with a splash of clementine, with a smoldering undercurrent of black pepper. We've taken it to the next level by adding more menthol, so this product will literally cool your skin - even in a steamy shower. We'll be shipping Novocaine orders out ASAP this week, to help you survive your own version of Summer Hell. And since I'm writing, I should mention that we did go ahead and make/stock both Blush and Crushed Whipped! body cremes like we'd planned. As an unexpected bonus, we've also stocked Pearl Diver Whipped! and Pearl Diver Smooch!. I am super excited about Pearl Diver this year - so glad we brought it back. The Smooch! is an incredible blend of salts and seaweed, and feels so wonderful that I've had to snag some for my own stash - it's irresistible. Our Pearl Diver soap is still curing, but will be available on the 31st along w/ a seaweedy Pearl Diver Mud!Signing out yo! Stay cool! Here is a list of the most recent Temporary Insanity:Contrary- Tart, wild strawberry creamed with soft vanilla. In counter balance, an incisive bite of cumin, crisp pear, and green tea.Mosh- Beer soap! This was pushing the envelope, even for us. Warm beer, sweaty leather, cigarette smoke and an elusive touch of hemp. The overall effect is pretty mild (likely because I forgot to include the bit of cloves I'd intended).Vague- The single worst way to compose a fragrance, Vague contains assorted drips, drabs and half-ounce samples of various floral and fruity fragrances. An unassuming faint floral with touches of neroli, iris, lily of the valley and geranium. But the honest-to-goodness truth is that we're not altogether certain what is in Vague.
OK, who has tried the Blush smooch? I'm wondering if it's as lovely and conditioning as the Datura smooch. The scent of Datura is a little too floral for me personally, but I adore the moisturizing I get from it so I use it anyway.Do you think I should give Blush a whirl?
How I came to be a Villainess, A Love Story.A dear, dear friend of mine sent me a bar of Apple Butter (Southern Gothic Collection 2006, currently retired) as part of our 2nd annual "Halloweeny" Gift Exchange:Full Name:Apple Butter Weight / Height: 3" / 3.5 ozColour:Apple shades of apricot.Distinguishing Features:Absolutely smooth silken lather. Garnished with an apple slice.Characteristic Scent:Thick, honeyed apple-butter, lightly spiced with summer-sweet clover and cinnamon.A few things did me in:01) Apple Butter, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Apple Butter (the food & now the soap)02) Handmade Gourmet Soap...right HERE in Tennessee?03) Independent Woman. I am one, so I support them!04) And lets not forget how AMAZING this soap is....So, in short--this was the bar that did me in. Now I have to make another post to share my stash and thoughts on other individual bars of Villainess.~~J
Full Name:BathoryWeight / Height: 3.5 oz / 3"Colour:Rusted crimson swirled with a frothy white undertow.Distinguishing Features:Soothing stinging nettles and black Australian clay swirled throughout.Characteristic Scent:The cloying sweetness of a covetous lust for misspent youth, offset by a geriatric touch of rose and carnation, and underscored by a malevolent insinuation of sandalwood.Ingredients:Palm Oil, Water, Rice Bran Oil, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Stinging Nettle, Castor Oil, Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Oxides, Black Australian Clay, SilkWhat it is really like: This is hands down my most favorite Villainess soap that I have tried yet. It has the most amazing fruity undertones. My nickname for this soap is "The Kiss of Death". This will send anyone into the most delightful tailspin of intoxication. Dry, it is very fruity with some musky undertones but wet, it comes bursting to life. The clay soothes irritated skin without leaving it taut or flaky like some other clay and mud soaps. I don't smell too much of the carnation, but you can tell it is there...it sort of jumps out at you when you least expect it and slaps you in the face....nicely.
I am so excited to put a community together that is dedicated to Villainess! Brooke's soaps [and other things too] have really changed the way I buy and also bathe!I have extremely irritable skin and have been so hard pressed to find a company that has soap compatible for my skin. Ive tried pretty much all the commercial brands, as well as the less commercial companies like Lush, TVAL, Skindazzles, Free Spirit etcetera...but only Brooke's soaps have made a lasting impression. They are big on quality and satisfaction and less on fuss. They are beautiful, multi layered and just to die for. You wont have to worry about squeaky, dry, irritable skin when using Villainess. These things are so soothing I even use them on my face! Please make sure you read the info page for rules and guidelines and feel free to share your photos, stashes, experiences and reviews of Villainess soap and other fabulous products!Welcome!~Athanasia
